MARY JANE KABALAN, 54 Was teacher and guidance counselor



YOUNGSTOWN -- Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home and at noon in St. Christine Church for Mary Jane Kabalan, 54, of 3420 Kirk Road, who died of cancer Thursday morning at home after a 10-month illness.
Mrs. Kabalan was born Sept. 20, 1946, in Youngstown, a daughter of Tom and Josephine Sattler Tamburino, and lived in this area for 29 years.
She was an elementary teacher for Youngstown city schools and later a guidance counselor at Hayes Middle School. A 1964 graduate of Ursuline High School, she was a 1969 graduate of Youngstown State University, earning a bachelor's degree in education. She received her master's degree in education from YSU in 1991.
She was a member of the church; Youngstown, Ohio and National Education associations; and Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Honor Society.
Besides her mother of Youngstown, she leaves her husband, Raymond T. Sr., whom she married Dec. 20, 1969; three sons, Raymond T. Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va., Paul J. of Columbus and Philip D. of Youngstown; two daughters, Marla J. Neilson of Cleveland and Suzanne T. Kabalan of Youngstown; a brother, Thomas Tamburino of Youngstown; a sister, Janet Anderson of Austintown; and two grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
