YOUNGSTOWN -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Black & amp; Phillips Funeral Home for Joseph C. Turner, 83, of 356 W. Earle Ave., who died Tuesday in Camelot Arms Care Center.
Mr. Turner, also known as "J.C.," was born April 12, 1918, in Laurel, Miss., a son of Alex and Katie Blakeley Turner, and came here in the early 1940s.
He was a machine operator with LTV Steel for 30 years before retiring. He was a member of Price Memorial AME Zion Church, its usher board and its choir.
His wife, the former Alma Williams, whom he married in 1947, died Nov. 24, 1988.
He leaves a stepson, Robert Williams of California; two sisters, Bernice Stewart and Carnell Williams, both of Youngstown; and a nephew, Edward Giddens of Youngstown, whom he helped to rear.
Three brothers, Leroy, Theodore and Alexander Turner, and three sisters, Mary Howard, Amelia Keahey and Katheryn Graham, are deceased.
Friends may call one hour before the services at the funeral home.
