AUSTINTOWN Zoning appeals board to hear two development plans

Tuesday, March 20, 2001

AUSTINTOWN -- Plans for a new retail shopping center and an automobile showroom and carwash will be reviewed by the township zoning board of appeals March 29.
The proposed shopping plaza is the larger of the two proposals, extending over a 9-acre site at the southwest corner of Mahoning Avenue and state Route 46. The retail center there now -- including Pizza Joe's and Monaco's restaurants, Dutchess Cleaners and Colla's grocery store -- will be torn down to make room for the new development, said zoning inspector Michael Kurilla.
The developer, Landmark Commercial Real Estate Services of Youngstown, has submitted plans for an L-shaped retail plaza set back from the street, surrounded by several detached buildings. Kurilla said proposed outbuildings include a bank, a restaurant, a drugstore, and an office building for Landmark.
The company is required to seek approval from the zoning appeals board because the development will cover an area larger than 300,000 square feet, he said. The development will have five drives onto the state Route 46-Mahoning Avenue intersection, and include parking for 619 cars.
Vehicle facilities: The board will also review a proposal by FAB Limousines Inc. to add a storage and maintenance building and an automated carwash to its facility at Raccoon and New roads. The glass-front building occupied by FAB for the past five years, originally designed as a grocery store, will be renovated to be an indoor showroom for limousine sales, said FAB President Frank A. Bagnoli.
The new 11,700-square-foot storage building would be built on an adjacent grassy lot and house about 20 cars, he said. The carwash would be located toward the rear of the property and measure 22 by 40 feet.
