Rally in Columbus
LISBON -- Patricia Baumgarner, executive director of the Columbiana County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board, other board members and other county mental health advocates were among the more than 2,000 people from across Ohio to attend a rally Thursday at the statehouse. Baumgarner said the rally was to call attention to the funding crisis faced by Ohio's mental health system. She said Gov. Bob Taft has decided the school funding crisis will be the focus of the next biennium budget, which calls for no increase in funding for mental health services. More funding is needed for 180,000 chronically mentally ill Ohioans, and the Coalition for Healthy Communities is seeking a 19 percent increase in funding.
