LIBERTY Coroner rules man's death as homicide

Thursday, March 15, 2001

LIBERTY -- Trumbull County Coroner's Office has ruled homicide in the death Tuesday of a 25-year-old man.
The coroner's office said that Niles J. Emmert died of multiple gunshot wounds but would not be more specific.
Police were called to Emmert's apartment at 4148 Madison Ave. in the Monticello Apartments late Tuesday. A neighbor called to report hearing gunshots about 11:30 p.m.
Emmert's body was found on a rear patio.
A neighbor said police questioned neighbors but would not tell them what happened.
Liberty Police Chief Michael Pilolli and Sgt. Richard Tisone were closed-lipped about the investigation today, contending the release of details would interfere with the investigation.
Tisone did say that witnesses told him a man went into the apartment, there was a conversation and shots were fired.
Tisone said he didn't know how the gunman made his getaway.
"We do have some good leads," Pilolli said. "We do feel optimistic that we can bring this case to a successful conclusion."
Pilolli and Tisone would not say what type of gun was used or if it had been found.
They said they don't want to concentrate on one motive because they may not then look at other motives.
