JUANITA JONES, 75 Was leader of local beauticians chapter



YOUNGSTOWN -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in New Bethel Baptist Church for Juanita Jones, 75, of 130 Clinton Ave., who died of cancer Friday afternoon in Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Mrs. Jones was born March 26, 1925, in Mobile County, Ala., a daughter of Charlie H. and Eloise Moreland Perkins, and came to the area in 1949.
She was a self-employed beautician for 57 years and was licensed in Ohio, Florida and Alabama and retired in 1995.
She was president of Youngstown Chapter 12 Ohio Association of Beauticians and was chairman of Ohio Association of Beauticians State Convention in 1975 and was its state organizer for 12 years.
She also was a member of Gospelite Choral Singers, Urban League, NAACP, Alpha Theta Ohio Chapter of the National Beauticians Sorority, National Institute of Cosmetology in Washington, D.C., and Theta Nu Sigma National Sorority.
She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, treasurer of its education committee, and served on its courtesy committee, as assistant supervisor of Junior Church for four years, and as chairman of the deaconess board.
She received awards for Beautician of the Year, Beautician Hall of Fame and Most Popular Beautician.
A 1941 graduate of Dunbar High School in Mobile, Ala., she received an associate degree in business technology from Youngstown State University, and was a 1942 graduate of Emily's Academy of Beauty Culture and the Dale Carnegie course in 1974.
Her husband, James B., whom she married July 31, 1961, died Oct. 31, 1977.
She leaves a stepdaughter, Doretha C. Jones of Youngstown; two sisters, Alee Eley of Los Angeles, Calif., and Susie McDowell of Bronx, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home in Youngstown.
