YOUNGSTOWN -- Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Itts Memorial Chapel at El Emeth Granada Cemetery for Bess Chawenson, 83, of 517 Gypsy Lane, who died Monday morning in Heritage Manor.
Mrs. Chawenson was born March 13, 1917, in Youngstown, a daughter of Harry and Rebecca Cohn Harskovitz.
A 1935 graduate of East High School, where she was a member of National Honor Society, she worked for the Jewish Center, the ration board during World War II and for the Department of Aging for the State of Pennsylvania. She retired in 1982.
She was a member of Temple El Emeth and its Sisterhood.
Her husband, Bernard A., whom she married in 1944, died in 1994.
She leaves a son, Jeffrey in California; a sister, Sara Wolkoff of Warren; and a brother, Louis Harskovitz of Liberty.
A sister, Pauline Nelson, is deceased.
Friends may call for a half-hour before the service at the cemetery chapel. Contributions may be made to the temple or Hermitage Manor. Arrangements are by Shriver-Allison-Courtley-Weller-King Funeral Home.
