Lane Sports Complex
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Board of Education will meet in special session at 6 p.m. Friday in the high school library to award the contract for construction of the Joe Lane Sports Complex.
Schools Superintendent Rocco Adduci said the district had a bid opening March 6 and plans to open other bids March 15.
Work will include construction of new grandstands for the stadium's home and visitor sides, football field renovations, construction of an all-weather track and erection of electrical towers for lighting.
The complex will be funded by a $500,000 donation, spread out in $50,000 increments over 10 years, from Joe Lane of Lane Funeral Homes, and various other community donations.
The board has appropriated $25,000 a year for 10 years to guarantee construction of an athletic building at the complex. It will borrow the money, but it hopes to generate enough cash for the entire complex through fund-raising efforts and donations.
