Woman accused of dumping baby is released on bail

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A 19-year-old woman accused of dumping the body of her newborn son in the woods is out of jail.
Kathleen D. Winterbottom of Portersville Road, Ellport, was released on bail Friday afternoon, said her attorney, Annette Hutchison. Winterbottom and live-in boyfriend Jason L. Wilds, 23, are accused of concealing the death of a child, abuse of a corpse and conspiracy.
Police say Winterbottom gave birth to a full-term boy June 10 and discarded it the next day behind her mother's house. It was found about a week later. A pathologist could not determine if the baby was stillborn, as Winterbottom claims, or alive at birth.
Winterbottom and Wilds were ordered to stand trial after preliminary hearings this week.
Wilds was released from jail Wednesday after a common pleas court judge reduced his bail from $100,000 to $25,000. Winterbottom's bail was reduced from $100,000 to $50,000.
