WARREN Bus system still under consideration

WARREN -- City council has not decided whether to kick in money to help establish a door-to-door countywide bus transportation system.
Council's finance committee met Thursday to continue discussion. An ordinance to support the system will be up for passage at council's July 11 meeting.
Some lawmakers have said the system would duplicate services, as transportation is already available in Warren.
Current providers: Western Reserve Transit Authority in Youngstown, SCOPE Senior Center and Trumbull Community Action Program all provide limited service in Trumbull County.
SCOPE officials have said they endorse the transportation plan because the agency offers service that is not meeting the needs of the public.
Council is considering chipping in $46,832, based on Warren's population, to start up the program.
Niles Mayor Ralph Infante is heading up planning efforts. His city is giving $20,932; Liberty trustees will give up to $13,500. Vienna Township has pledged $4,000 and county commissioners have committed $120,000
Local tax dollars will be used to obtain matching state and federal dollars.
Officials say a board will be formed, with representation from each contributing community, to make decisions regarding the system.
Infante says he'll pursue plans with or without Warren's help.
