NESHANNOCK Township streets get new names

The cost of accident reports in the township is going up.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Neshannock Township supervisors have named or renamed several streets in the township.
The move is part of a countywide effort to provide the 911 center with addresses for all residences and businesses. The center must approve the changes.
Township officials explained that many residences are on alleys and driveways that had not previously been named.
& quot;In some cases we had several residences along the same driveway, but that driveway had no name and emergency personnel didn't know where to go in case of an emergency, & quot; said John DiCola, township supervisor.
Also, some streets had similar names such as Shady Lane and Shady Lane Drive. Township officials renamed many of those roads.
& quot;It's to lesson the confusion, to make things easier and more consistent, & quot; DiCola said. & quot;And mostly to lessen response times during emergencies. & quot;
Other considerations: In other business at their meeting Wednesday, supervisors increased the fee for accident report copies from $8 to $15. Pennsylvania Department of Transportation recently increase the size of accident reports from two pages to eight, officials said. They said the cost increase is needed to offset higher copying costs.
Also, supervisors agreed to name Frank Taylor, the township engineer, enforcement officer for the storm water maintenance ordinance. The move authorizes the engineer to write citations for violators of that ordinance.
