FCSLA Education scholarships to be awarded at dinner

YOUNGSTOWN -- Winners of First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association education scholarships will be honored during a dinner to be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 26 at Sts. Cyril and Methodist Church hall.
Branch 325 of Youngstown will host the event, and the winners, their parents and grandparents will be guests.
Mary Magda, president of the branch and treasurer of the district, will present each of the 22 Maria E. Grega Youngstown District winners with a monetary gift from the Youngstown District.
Scholarship recipients are:
UGraduate level: Elizabeth Curtis, Canfield.
UCollege level: Michelle Brunner, William Duritza and Shannon Huzicka, all of Youngstown; Nathan Papalia and James White, Struthers; B.J. Sinsheimer, Canfield; Sarah Yurco, Poland; Michael Williams, Girard; Krystle Crittenden, Columbiana; Stephen Prest, Willoughby; Christopher Yanek, Hermitage, Pa.; Christopher Harver, Lake Oswego, Ore.; and Edward Novotny, Charlotte, N.C.
UHigh school level: Aaron Kubicina, Niles; Kimberly Root, Lowellville; Jennifer Rusbacky, Fairfield; Katheryn Gorski, Canton; and Laura Selenchik, West Middlesex, Pa.
UElementary level: Michael Leko, Struthers; and John Rovnak and Jeffrey Leonard, Youngstown.
The Anna Granchay Memorial Scholarship was awarded by the district to Novotny.
A total of $135,000 in education scholarships was awarded to 134 members across the United States by the FCSLA, which was founded in 1892 by eight Slovak immigrant women. In addition to awarding scholarships, the group donates funds to various charities.
