NEW YORK-PENN LEAGUE Scrappers snap four-game skid

NEW YORK -- Jonathan Van Every scored the only run of the game in the eighth inning as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers blanked the Brooklyn Cyclones 1-0 Tuesday night in New York-Penn League action at KeySpan Park.
The Scrappers (2-6) snapped a four-game losing streak, while the Cyclones evened their record at 4-4.
In the eighth inning, Rickie Morton of the Scrappers skied a pop-up in the infield and Cyclones second baseman Leandro Arias lost the ball in the lights. Van Every reached third as the ball was picked up.
Winning run: Relief pitcher Michael Cox of the Cyclones started to chase Morton and then saw Van Every sprinting for home. His throw to the plate was high and wide, allowing Van Every to score.
Morton led the Scrappers with a double and two singles. Francis Finnerty hit two singles.
It was the fifth one-run game that the Cyclones have been involved in this season, and they are 2-3 in those contests.
Victor Kleine (1-0) of the Scrappers went eight innings, allowed three hits, struck out seven and didn't walk a batter to pick up the win.
