TRUMBULL COUNTY 2 inmates walk away from work-release jobs

An inmate incompetent to stand trial was mistakenly released from the jail, officials said.

WARREN -- Trumbull County deputy sheriffs are searching for two county jail inmates who walked away from their work-release program.
Officials said Antoine Martin, 34, of Steubenville, and Drue DeBolt, 36, of Warren, walked away from Pacal Plastics, West Federal Street, Niles, Monday morning.
Martin was serving time for domestic violence and DeBolt was jailed for check fraud. Martin was to be released Oct. 12 and DeBolt's sentence was to end July 19, jail officials said.
Sheriff Thomas Altiere is out of town and could not be reached to comment.
Chief Deputy Jerry Bluedorn said that when the two are apprehended they will face escape charges.
"Deputies went to their houses Monday and tried to talk to family members to find out if anyone knew where these two may have gone," Bluedorn said. "We will keep looking until they are found."
Nonviolent: Bluedorn said the two were chosen for the program because they were now deemed not violent.
"It's a shame this happened because this is a great program," Bluedorn said.
He noted that the work-release program allows inmates to work during the day and then be brought back to the jail at night. A deputy transfers the inmates to and from work, jail officials said.
"We don't have inmates walking away from work-release programs very often," Bluedorn said. "I can't remember the last time it happened."
An inmate who was supposed to be sent to a mental hospital was recently wrongly released, however.
Found incompetent: Jail officials noted that Vincent Maggio, found incompetent June 14 to stand trial on an aggravated burglary charge and ordered to spend a year at North Coast Behavioral Health Systems, was set free the same day.
Maggio, 46, of Hollywood Street N.E., was freed from the jail because the proper paperwork from the court was not delivered to the jailers, Bluedorn said.
Officials for Judge John Stuard of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court said the paperwork was sent to the jail.
Maggio was arrested by Warren police Sunday after a man on Woodland Avenue N.E. called officials, saying that Maggio tried to run him over. The man, who knew Maggio, said Maggio drove a Chevrolet Blazer on his lawn and attempted to hit him, reports say.
Maggio, now being held in the county jail, is facing an additional charge of felonious assault, police said.
