Man isn't charged in raccoon shooting

CANFIELD -- The city attorney has decided not to charge a South Broad Street man for shooting a raccoon in his backyard last week.
Police say the man went into his back yard at 2322 South Broad Street with a rifle Friday afternoon when he saw a raccoon attacking his two dogs. The man shot the raccoon four times.
The man said he made sure that no children were in the area when he shot the raccoon. In addition, he said he shot at an angle so that if he missed, the bullet would go into the ground or his window well. City ordinances prohibit the discharge of a firearm within the city limits.
