HUBBARD School board appoints new superintendent

HUBBARD -- The school district has found its new superintendent.
The school board appointed James Herrholtz to the job at its Monday night meeting. Herrholtz grew up in Hubbard and most recently served as principal of Northwood High School in Toledo.
His contract, effective July 1, runs through June 30, 2004, with a yearly salary of $69,000.
The board also voted for Donald E. Newell as their vice president. Newell fills the position left open by former board member Patrick Clemente.
In other business, the board plans to increase a carryover fund that already has $171,000 in its budget reserve. State law previously required the school district to keep the reserve, but due to new state legislation, the board could eliminate, maintain or add to the fund.
Treasurer Phil Butto recommended using the reserve to meet potential deficits.
Contracts: One-year contract extensions were approved for the principals of Hubbard High School, Reed Middle School and Roosevelt Elementary School. The high school and middle school assistant principals also were given one-year extensions.
The board rehired from the reduction-in-force list teachers Susan O'Connell and Nicole Allen.
The board hired Tiffany Masian as a high school science teacher, Carol Killian as office secretary, Debra Paris as a cook's helper, and Cara Ryser as lifeguard at the Hubbard Community Pool. No salary information was available for any of those jobs.
The board also hired Carl T. Morell of Hubbard as consultant to the board at a rate of $25 per hour on an as-needed basis.
