STRUTHERS -- A trial has been set for Kim Stocker, owner of the Spring Street Apartments, for 10:45 a.m. July 23 in Struthers Municipal Court, on four charges pertaining to the complex. Stocker, who has owned the apartments since 1997, pleaded innocent to code violations in April and May concerning the complex exterior, gutters and downspouts, depositing of garbage and an occupancy permit.
Blaze destroys trailer
BOARDMAN -- Township firefighters are investigating an early-morning fire that destroyed a trailer home at 4055 South Avenue just after midnight today. Residents at the address were not home when the fire erupted, and there were no injuries. A cause for the blaze, which started in the kitchen area, has yet to be determined. Loss is estimated at $18,000.
Woman hurt in accident
YOUNGSTOWN -- Theresa Eckenrode, 38, of New Road, Austintown, was in stable condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center after a car accident on Bears Den Road on the West Side about 12:30 a.m. today. Eckenrode lost control of her car in the 2700 block, striking another car broadside; then, her car flipped several times. There were no other injuries. Her license was seized and charges are pending.
Robbed at gunpoint
YOUNGSTOWN -- A North Side man told police that he was robbed at gunpoint at 12:20 a.m. today while backing his car out of his driveway on Ohio Avenue. The gunman got in the car and ordered the man to drive to Dennick Avenue. Once there, the suspect took a CD player and $14 and wanted to look in the trunk to see if there were any speakers he could steal. There were no speakers, and the victim reported that he was told to get into the trunk, which he refused to do. He ran, telling the thief to just take the car. The thief ran, leaving the car but taking the keys.
Siblings face charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning County deputies who cited 31-year-old Demetrius Rogers of Arch Street on a driving violation had an opportunity to speak to his sister, the owner of the car. Checking her through dispatch, they learned that she was being sought on a Trumbull County warrant. The deputies then took Yvette L. Rogers, 30, from her Arch Street home to Belmont Avenue at Gypsy Lane and turned her over to Liberty police. The car was towed and held for a court release. Demetrius Rogers was cited at 12:30 a.m. today on the East Side on a suspended-license charge.
Cat locked in house
STRUTHERS -- Two former residents of Helena Drive may face animal-cruelty charges because of a cat found locked in a home they abandoned. Struthers police and Animal Charities officials were notified about the emaciated feline, which they found perched on a bedroom window sill Monday.
Police said the home at 76 Helena Drive had been abandoned for weeks. They secured the cat in a clothes hamper and brought it to an animal shelter.
Special board meeting
GIRARD -- A special board of education meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. today at the high school cafeteria to discuss personnel.
