SHARON Small Ships Revue is open for whatever boats you float

The annual revue covers a half-mile of the Shenango River and prizes are given in various categories.
SHARON, Pa. -- There's still time to get your ship together.
The Small Ships Revue on the Shenango River in downtown Sharon is set for Friday.
Best Wings USA has been the prime sponsor for the annual event that has, in past years, drawn as many as 100 entrants.
The number is expected to be substantially lower this year, a spokesman said, noting there were only about 30 last year.
The fun float, covering about a half-mile of the river from a launch site just upstream from the Silver Street Bridge to the "beach" at Best Wings just south of the Connelly Avenue Bridge, is open to just about anything that floats, although there are some basic rules.
The rules: Crews must launch their own ships, all crew members must were life preservers and sign a waiver of liability, alcohol consumption is banned and there can be no projectiles launched from ships.
Participants are advised to wear shoes as the river is quite shallow in some areas and littering is frowned upon, although many of the watercraft don't make it down the river intact and frequently come floating down in pieces.
The Small Ships Revue has proved to be a popular early summer event, often drawing thousands of people to the bridges and riverbanks.
Prizes: It's really a contest offering some lucrative prizes.
There's a grand prize of $1,000 cash for the best entry as well as lesser cash prizes in various categories. The first 250 crew members get free T-shirts.
Entrants are encouraged to design their craft around a theme or a business or to just use their imagination.
The event begins with a pre-revue registration party at 3 p.m. at Best Wings' Quaker Steak & amp; Lube.
There will be a pre-launch parade of ships forming at 5 p.m. at the Penn State Shenango softball field on Railroad Street and the parade moves at 6 p.m., traveling south on Railroad, west on State Street, north on Shenango Avenue, west on Silver Street and then north on Penn Avenue to the launch site.
The float begins at 7 p.m. and the evening will be capped with a fireworks display at Best Wings USA.
