BUTLER, Pa. -- The 2001 Cruise-A-Palooza, celebrating its sixth year, will be from 3 to 11 p.m. July 1 on Main Street. Johnny Angel and the Halos will perform at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. on the steps of Butler County Courthouse. Race car driver Bobby Martin will show off his Cap Avenger NHRA Federal Mogul Funny Car and sign autographs. A kickoff celebration will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Butler Memorial Park. There will be food and a disc jockey.
Assault charges levied
SHARON, Pa. -- A Morton Street man was in the Mercer County jail Friday in lieu of $50,000 bond, charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. Police say Douglas E. Zuschlag, 38, choked a woman into unconsciousness during an argument at his home around 10:30 p.m. Thursday. She woke up about an hour later and called police, who arrested Zuschlag when he returned home around 3:30 a.m. Friday.
Sports media lecture
WARREN -- Dana Balash, sports anchorman for WFMJ-TV Channel 21 in Youngstown, will discuss the business of television sports at the Howland branch of the Warren-Trumbull Public Library at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The program is free; reservations are not needed.
Residents: Truckers lead to health danger
LOGANTON, Pa. (AP) -- Seeing a dozen tractor-trailers lined up near Interstate 80's Exit 27 is a nightly occurrence, and residents say the congregation of truckers has led to a potential health danger -- the improper disposal of human waste.
Community officials here have asked the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and state police to stop the truckers from pulling over in the borough, about 60 miles northwest of Harrisburg.
"This area is getting littered with gallon jugs filled with urine," said Pete Smeltz, PennDOT maintenance manager in Clinton County. "This is unacceptable, not to mention an unsafe and public hazard, because Exit 27 is near the headwaters of the public water supply area."
PennDOT has erected "no parking" signs along the interchange.
Had to do it: "We had no choice but to hang signs in the problem area. Then the state police can enforce the restriction," Smeltz said. "We need to prohibit this overnight activity that leaves trash and human waste lying along our highways. Hopefully the truck drivers will move to the rest areas."
There are two rest areas near Loganton, but they sometimes are filled to capacity. PennDOT is studying whether to expand parking at some of its facilities to discourage roadside resting.
Police seek foot licker
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- City police aren't quite licked, but they're befuddled enough to ask the public to help them solve a very odd case.
Police said Friday they are on the lookout for a foot licker who attacked a woman downtown about 11 a.m. Monday.
The woman told police the man stepped on the back of her shoe and knocked it off, after which he grabbed her leg and began licking her foot and sniffing her shoe before she was able to run away.
Police aren't identifying the woman because they consider the attack to be sexual in nature and city police don't release the names of sexual assault victims. Police haven't had any similar reports recently.
Divorcees conference
WARREN -- Spencer Ministries is sponsoring "Broken Covenant Conference" for divorced or single people from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in The Hippodrome. The conference is designed to heal past hurts and wounds through the Gospel. There will be speakers.
