PSU SHENANGO Students earn recognition

One winner is from Sharon, the other from Hermitage.
SHARON, Pa. -- Penn State Shenango recently honored two students for their contributions to the campus community.
Jonathan Miller of Sharon was the recipient of the Eric A. and Josephine Walker Award. The award recognizes students from Commonwealth campuses whose character, scholarship, leadership and citizenship have contributed to the well-being of their campus and to the reputation of the university.
A senior majoring human development and family studies, Miller will graduate in May 2002. He has served as president, liaison and sophomore representative of Student Government Association, as well as public relations representative of the Human Development and Family Studies Club and president of Shenango Students for Cultural Diversity.
Miller received a cash award from the Shenango Advisory Board in April and a plaque at a luncheon in May at University Park. He lives with his grandmother, Dorothy Miller, in Sharon. His mother, Kathy Miller, lives in Farrell.
Outstanding adult: Tina Wininsky of Hermitage was named the 2001 Outstanding Adult Student.
Established by the Penn State Shenango Advisory Board, the award honors adult students who have overcome difficult circumstances in order to pursue higher education.
Wininsky, a senior in the human development and family studies program, will graduate in May 2002. She is a member of the Shenango Students for Cultural Diversity, student co-chair of the Commission for Women Status and Service Forum and treasurer of the Student Government Association.
She has received many awards, including the Penn State Shenango 2001 Academic Achievement Award for having the highest grade average in her major. Wininsky plans to pursue a career in the field of aging or in career/employment counseling.
She was presented with a plaque and cash reward from the Penn State Shenango Advisory Board in April. Wininsky lives in Hermitage with her husband, Daniel, and four sons.
