Change of mind: PNCwill host prep games
The Pittsburgh Pirates say all three PIAA District 7 high school championship baseball games -- and the City League championship -- will be played at PNC Park next year.
Steve Greenberg, Pirates vice president of ballpark development and communications, announced the decision at Thursday night's meeting of the Allegheny County Council's economic development committee.
The Pirates came under fire earlier this year when they first refused to let the high schools use the field, as was done at Three Rivers Stadium in the past.
The team said the games would interfere with field maintenance, but relented and allowed the Triple-A championship game to be played on an off-day in late May.
Greenberg said he'll contact the high school leagues about when the games can be scheduled after next year's Pirates schedule is finalized at the end of July.
