Chance returns to work
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning County Sheriff Randall Wellington will not appeal a judge's ruling that Jeff Chance be reinstated as a corporal in the sheriff's department. Chance is to report to work Monday and will be assigned to work in the county jail.
Chance was fired by Wellington in October 1999 after pleading guilty to two misdemeanor counts of falsification. He appealed his firing, saying it violated terms of the department's collective bargaining agreement.
An arbitrator ruled in Chance's favor in May 2000. The county appealed to Judge Maureen A. Cronin of common pleas court, who affirmed the arbitrator's decision this week.
