Oklahoma's Stoops headlines Mooney High football camp

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Cardinal Mooney High football coaching staff will host a camp for athletes in grades four-nine on July 10-11 at the high school athletic complex.
The first annual "Camp of Champions," which lasts from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. both days, will feature Mooney graduate Bob Stoops, the head coach at the University of Oklahoma, and several other well-known football coaches.
Joining Stoops, who led the Sooners to the 2000 national championship, as guest speaker will be Mark "Bo" Pelini, linebacker coach with the Green Bay Packers.
Special guest clinicians include: Mike Stoops, defensive coordinator at Oklahoma; Mark Stoops, secondary coach at the University of Miami; Bob Stoops, defensive line coach at Youngstown State; Michael Zordich, a nine-year NFL veteran; and Don Bucci, retired Cardinal Mooney coach.
Former Heisman Trophy winner Gino Torretta, who played quarterback at the University of Miami, also is supposed to make an appearance.
The camp, which costs $40, will be a non-contact program focusing on defensive skills and fundamentals. Campers will be separated by age for drills and competition.
A camp brochure can be obtained at various locations: Sportsworld and Jock Stop in Boardman, Belleria Pizza in the Hilltop Plaza in Canfield and Inner Circle Pizza in Poland. Registration deadline is July 1.
