West Farmington man gets eight years for attempted rape

WARREN -- A 29-year-old West Farmington man convicted of two counts of attempted rape and one count of gross sexual imposition has been sentenced to eight years in prison.
Judge Andrew Logan of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court sentenced Todd Hurd during a brief hearing Tuesday to eight years on each count of attempted rape and to five years on the GSI charge and said the terms would run simultaneously.
Hurd told the judge before sentencing that he was innocent and that prosecutors "proved I didn't do it."
Atty. John Fowler, who represents Hurd, said Hurd plans to appeal.
A jury began hearing Hurd's case June 11 and deliberated about 10 hours before returning the verdict Friday.
Hurd also faced two counts of rape, but the jury was unable to come to a unanimous verdict on those.
Atty. Thomas Wrenn, an assistant Trumbull County prosecutor, said he will not retry Hurd on those charges.
Wrenn said the victim was a 10-year-old girl Hurd knows.
The attacks took place in 1998 and 1999, he said.
