Library book store to open in New Castle

Library book storeto open in New Castle
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Friends of the New Castle Public Library will open a new store, the Book Cellar, on the lower level of the New Castle Public LIbrary. The bookstore will sell used books, crafts, jewelry, greeting cards and wooden items. To celebrate the grand opening of the bookstore, Friends of the Library will have a Book Cellar preview at 7 p.m. June 28.
The preview is open to the public and requires a $10 contribution, which is tax deductible. Members of Friends of the Library will receive a 30 percent discount on books and a 10 percent discount on gift items at the preview, and people interested in becoming members of Friends of the Library will be able to sign up that night. As part of the grand opening, the Book Cellar will also be open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 29 and 30, and prizes will be awarded on those days.
Regular hours for the bookstore will 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays. New Castle Public Library is at 207 East North St.
Herb Day
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- EverGreen will present the second annual Herb Day, a tour of three herb gardens, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 7. Those attending should meet at San Mar Co., 7118 Melody Road, N.E., Kensington, to visit an 80-acre country retreat. A visit to The Plant Place will follow along with lunch, and the tour will end at Lily of the Valley Herb Farm in Minerva. Registration must be made by June 25. Summer walk
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- EverGreen will sponsor a "Summer Walk" with Lori Navarra on the nature trails at Villa Maria Community Center from 6 to 8 p.m. July 15. There also will be a potluck dinner to which those attending are asked to take a dish to share. A freewill offering will be taken. Volunteer recognition
YOUNGSTOWN -- Streetscape 2001, a project of the Downtown Revitalization Committee, will have a volunteer and donor recognition party Wednesday at Federal Plaza East Amphitheater.
