75th anniversary
Lt. Frederick Kahn VFW Post 1423, Youngstown, celebrated its 75th anniversary June 10. The post received two proclamations recognizing the event, one from U.S. James A. Traficant Jr., D-17th, Poland, and the other from John F. Gwizdak, commander of the National VFW.
Post 1423 officers for 2001-02 include: John E. Malys, commander; Joseph J. Doyle, senior vice commander; Andrew G. Doria, adjutant; John B. Pachuta, quartermaster; Vincent J. Doria, chaplain and service officer; and Andrew J. Mehley, Leon C. Ratkowski and Frank N. Rhodes, trustees.
Health fair
The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 325 New Castle Road, Butler, will have a health fair and enrollment clinic from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday at which veterans may receive free health evaluations, pneumonia vaccine and enrollment information. No appointment is necessary, but veterans applying for a doctor's appointment must bring a copy of their discharge papers.

Chaney graduate
Air Force Senior Airman Michael A. Barber was promoted to his current rank while assigned to Junsan Air Base, Korea, where he is a chemical warfare defense equipment specialist. He graduated in 1996 from Chaney High School and is a son of Ronald A. and Florence Barber Sr., 2730 Brunswick Road, Youngstown.

Several area residents completed Army training courses at Fort Lee. Va. They are: Pfc. Christian A. Hamilton, son of Frank I. Hamilton, Court Street, and Dixi Hamilton, both of New Castle, unit supply specialist advanced individual training; Reserve Pvt. Stephaine A. Croom, granddaughter of Catherine Williams, 2407 Cottage Grove, Youngstown, and a 2000 graduate of Youngstown Woodrow Wilson High School, petroleum supply specialist advanced individual training; and National Guard Pvt. Jamaal S. Alexander, son of Felicia M. Alexander, 546 Mistletoe Ave., Youngstown, and a 2000 graduate of Youngstown Ursuline High School, unit supply specialist advanced individual training.
HONORS
Commendation
Army Sgt. Scott T. Brogan and Army Staff Sgt. Timothy D. Honaker received Army Commendation Medals while assigned at Camp Howze, Jori-Myon, South Korea.
Brogan, son of Bruce L. Brogan of Damascus, and a 1995 graduate of West Branch High School, is a combat engineer with Bravo Company, 44th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division.
Honaker, son of Bob L. and Fern G. Honaker, Carroll Road, East Liverpool, and a 1976 graduate of Beaver Local High School, Lisbon, is a combat construction foreman with Headquarters Company, 44th Engineer Battalion.
