YOUNGSTOWN -- Negotiations will resume Monday evening in an effort to end the strike by 766 nurses against Forum Health Northside Medical Center, Tod Children's Hospital and Beeghly Medical Park, a Forum Health spokeswoman said Saturday. Representatives of Forum Health and the Youngstown General Duty Nurses' Association, whose members have been on strike since May 1, exchanged proposals during six hours of talks Saturday, according to Evonne Woloshyn, senior vice president for marketing and community relations at Forum Health.
Items soughtfor fall 'Passport'
NILES -- The Trumbull County Convention and Visitors Bureau is accepting event submissions for the fall edition of "Passport," the county's seasonal event calendar.
Events and festivals between September and December are eligible.
All events must be open to the public, take place in Trumbull County and be of interest to the general public.
Send the dates, time, place, contact person and phone number for each event to the bureau, 650 Youngstown-Warren Road, Niles 44446.
Deadline is July 1.
Levy meeting Thursday
CORTLAND -- The Lakeview Board of Education will meet in special session at 8 a.m. Thursday in the superintendent's office to consider renewing a 1-mill permanent improvement levy.
Help availablefor proficiency tests
GIRARD -- Girard High School is offering intervention classes for the ninth grade proficiency test.
It is open to Girard students in grades 10 through 12 from June 25 through July 13, 8:30 to 10 a.m. each day.
The test will be given July 16.
If there is room, students entering ninth grade will be allowed to register.

Canfield councilcancels meeting
CANFIELD -- The city council meeting scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled because of a lack of a quorum. The public hearing before the meeting has been rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. July 18 in council chambers.

YOUNGSTOWN -- "Using the CityWatch telephone alert system to fight crime" will be the topic of Detective Jack Palma of the Youngstown Police Department at 7 p.m. Wednesday in St. Dominic Parish Center, 3403 Southern Blvd. The presentation will be given at the meeting of the Southern Boulevard Block Watch.
School funds hearings
YOUNGSTOWN -- Public hearings will be June 21 in Room 116 at 20 W. Wood St. regarding the use next school year of federal Title VI-B and Public Law 99-457 early childhood education funds allocated to the Youngstown city schools. Public questions and comments will be taken at 10 a.m. regarding Title VI-B and at 11 a.m. concerning Public Law 99-457.
