Ursuline sisterreceives doctorate
CANFIELD -- Ursuline Sister Mary McCormick recently received a doctorate of philosophy in theology from Fordham University in the Bronx, N.Y.
Sister Mary's dissertation was, "Right Relations: A Test of the 'Practical' Trinitarian Doctrine of God for Ecclesiology in the Theologies of Catherine Mowry LaCugna and Edward Schillebeeckx."
She was mentored by Sister Elizabeth Johnson, CSJ, distinguished professor of theology at Fordham and the author of several books. Sister Mary will return to St. Mary Seminary and Graduate School of Theology in Wickliffe, where she served on the faculty from 1997 through 2000 while writing her dissertation. Sister Mary has a bachelor's degree in education from Youngstown State University, a master's in theology from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, and a master's in religious education from Loyola University in New Orleans.
Annual honors given
LIBERTY -- Liberty Presbyterian Church has named Bob Hood and Kathryn Infante its man and woman of the year for 2001.
Hood, a 47-year member of the church, serves as trustee. He's a descendant of the township's first settlers and a descendant of the church's charter members.
Infante is a wife, mother of two, a Boy Scout leader and a Sunday school teacher.
Abbot elected
CLEVELAND -- The Rev. Clement Zeleznik, OSB, was named abbot of the St. Andrew Benedictine Abbey and president of Benedictine High School in Cleveland on June. 8. His siblings include two Notre Dame Sisters stationed in Chardon -- Sister Jonathan Zeleznik, who works in pastoral ministry at St. Anselm's Parish in Chesterland, and Sister Reginia Marie Zeleznik, who is pastoral minister for St. Peter-of-the-Fields Parish in Rootstown in the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown.

Young adult ministry
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Catholic Diocese of Youngstown has announced its Office of Youth Ministry will assume responsibility for ministry to young adults. The office will change its name to the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, effective July 1. The current youth ministry staff will respond to the needs of people ranging from high school graduates through their 30s, including those who are single, married, divorced or widowed.
The change reflects increased demand for faith formation, social interactions, and ministerial opportunities, according to the diocese.
This summer, a listing of informational sessions, training opportunities, and resources will be published for those interested in furthering young adult ministries in their parish. Call (330) 744-8451.

Summer youth program
YOUNGSTOWN -- Guiding Light Center of Hope in the former Jefferson School will offer the Keep Educating Youth all Seasons program from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday to Aug. 10. YOUNGSTOWN -- The White River Youth Choir of Muncie, Ind., will perform at 7 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church. The singers will perform a variety of gospel, jazz and patriotic music. An offering will be taken.

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Office of Social Action of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Youngstown is taking grant applications for Operation Rice Bowl and the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Operation Rice Bowl money can be used to provide food and hunger-related services. Catholic Campaign for Human Development money can be used by low income groups working to change policies or structures for social justice or neighborhood improvement.
