NORTH LIMA -- A new program aimed at uniting the Beaver Township Police Department and the township's senior citizens will be discussed at this month's Crime Watch meeting.
The program which will be called CLASS -- Cops Looking After Special Seniors. Police Chief Carl Frost said CLASS is being developed with the help of area churches and Beaver Township Ruritan Club.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the activity center at Shepherd's Manor, 9111 Sharrott Road.
Fire training class
POLAND -- Mahoning County Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the Mahoning County Fire Chiefs Association will conduct a specialized fire training class on the use of chemical foam for fire suppression.
The course will be at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Poland Township Government Center and is open to all area firefighters. A live demonstration of the use of foam is scheduled in the afternoon.
Pet Loss Support Group

Sentenced in bank theft
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- An Ohio woman has been sentenced to five years of supervised release, including six months of house arrest, for stealing almost $20,000 from people's bank accounts to cover the money she stole from a bank where she worked.
Tressa Roberts, 28, of Wellsville, Ohio, was also ordered to repay the $19,960 she stole from people's accounts at Tri-State Federal Credit Union in Midland.
Authorities said she took money from the accounts 11 times from May 1999 to February 2000 to cover money she stole from the teller drawer.
Principal reassigned
HANOVERTON -- The United Board of Education moved elementary school assistant principal Bill Young to the high school as assistant principal.
Young replaces Reed Votaw, who retired. Young previously had been a teacher with Brown and Beaver Local school districts for a total of seven years.
In other matters during its meeting Thursday, the board honored two retiring teachers, Joan Jackson and Connie Willis. Jackson and Willis taught at United for 32 and 31 years, respectively.
The board also approved a new contract with the teachers union. The three-year agreement calls for a 3.5 percent increase in the salary scale the first two years of the contract and a 3 percent increase in the third year. The agreement takes effect Sept. 1.
Ellwood break-in
ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. -- Police say a scruffy-looking, brown-haired man broke into a Fifth Street apartment and chased its resident outside for several blocks. The man stopped chasing the resident somewhere near Beaver Avenue at 3:13 a.m. Thursday, police said. Police could not say why the man broke into the apartment. They describe the suspect as being in his 40s, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, wearing a blue overall jumpsuit and a green baseball cap. Anyone with information on the man is asked to call Ellwood City police.
Disabled woman hurt
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A woman dragged 40 feet in her wheelchair by a sport utility vehicle is in stable condition at Jameson Hospital. Barbara McConnell, 49, of Oak Street, was crossing Jefferson Street at the corner of East Washington Street when a Dodge Durango hit her motorized wheelchair at 5:40 p.m. Thursday. Driver Patrick Donofrio, 23, of Willowbrook Road told police he felt something dragging under his vehicle, but didn't stop until another driver motioned for him to do so.
When Donofrio stopped, he backed up and saw McConnell in her wheelchair. She told police the crosswalk sign was indicating she should proceed into the street when she was hit. McConnell complained of neck and back pain. No charges have been filed.
Taken in burglary
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Someone broke into an East Falls Street home and took a handgun, cash, compact discs and video equipment. Police said someone entered the house by removing a bedroom window fan between 10:45 p.m. Thursday to 1:14 a.m. today.
