WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. -- Brass Taxi, a self-described "little big band," will make its local debut at a benefit concert for Keystone Blind Association at 7:30 p.m. June 22 at Radisson Hotel, Route 18 at I-80. Brass Taxi plays jazz, R & amp;B, pop and Broadway songs, among others. The Orchid Pool, a pop group that has been influenced by mid-1960s acts like The Beach Boys and Simon & amp; Garfunkel will play its original music. Members of Keystone Kids, the blind association's program for children with vision impairments, will also perform. Tickets are $15 and include a dessert bar and hors d'oeuvres. Guest performancesby jazz guitarist
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Jazz guitarist Joe Negri of Pittsburgh, who's been a frequent guest on the children's TV show "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood," will perform with Musicians' Concert Band at 8 p.m. June 22 in Slippery Rock University Miller Auditorium. The 100-member band will also welcome guest bass player David G. Pellow. Blase S. Scarnati will direct the musicians. Admission is $2 at the door.
Summer concert series
WARREN -- Herb Seelbach Dixieland Band will kick off the free summer concert series outside W.D. Packard Music Hall & amp; Convention Center, 1703 Mahoning Ave. N.W. All concerts are from 7 to 8:30 p.m. until Aug. 28, when hours will be from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Seating is on the lawn.
The rest of the schedule is as follows: Top Notes with Dr. John Vlad, July 17; High Society, July 24; Guys Without Ties, July 31 and Sept. 11; Rudy Sulek Orchestra, Aug. 7; Edelweiss, Aug. 14; Warren Concert Band with director Paul A. Rossi, Aug. 21 and Sept. 4; and Concertante string ensemble, Aug. 28.
The concerts are funded by Music Performance Trust Fund and Martini-Martin Arts Trust and arranged by Federation of Musicians Local 118.
Summer art camp
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts is registering students for summer art camp. The camp is for three consecutive weeks beginning July 10 for children ages 3 to 12. There will be projects in ceramics, painting and many other art mediums. Classes are from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday through Friday. Students may register for one or two weeks for a cost of $25 a week or $67.50 for all three weeks. To register, call (724) 652-2882.
