Alpine Springs announces acquisition

YOUNGSTOWN -- Alpine Natural Springs of New Waterford has acquired Wheeler Spring Water Co. of Youngstown.
Michael Mercure, chief executive and owner of Alpine, said the deal will help his company better serve customers and expand its market share. The Wheeler brand will be maintained.
Alpine said that adding Wheeler's plant capacity will help it grow.
Mike and Mary Ann Johnson, former Wheeler owners, said they are looking forward to remaining involved with the company.
Johnson was in the oil business for 20 years when he decided to enter the water business and bought Wheeler in 1983. Wheeler was started in 1907. Wheeler delivers water coolers, bottled spring water and coffee service to homes and businesses.
Alpine, which has a natural spring in Salineville, provides area delivery of water coolers and bottled spring water but also provides wholesale distribution through Midwest regional and national grocery chains.
The company also does private labeling of water for fund-raising programs and corporate events. It has delivered these products as far away as Florida and Las Vegas.
