Longtime educator plans retirement

FARRELL, Pa. -- A longtime educator will disappear from the high school July 2.
That's the official retirement date for Frank Sincek, who has spent 38 years in the Farrell system.
The school board accepted his retirement Monday with most members of the board expressing their regrets at his decision to step down.
Sincek, who turned 60 June 5, Farrell's graduation day, said the timing is right to leave.
The state enacted a retirement incentive package for teachers this year that will enable him to retire at about 95 percent of his salary, but he won't disappear completely.
"I'm going to stay on as a volunteer assistant varsity basketball coach," he said after the meeting.
He started his career in Farrell as a speech teacher and later taught the sciences in grades five through 12.
He served as attendance officer, dean of students and assistant principal before being named principal nine years ago.
He also served as head basketball coach for 11 years.
He said he'll miss working with the students and his friends on the faculty but he'll have more time with his family and to do some of the things he never had time for before.
Sincek gave of himself to both the school district and the community, said Superintendent Richard Rubano.
"It's been an honor to work with you," he told Sincek.
