Judge denies father's funeral request

YOUNGSTOWN -- A judge Mahoning County Common Pleas Court has denied a request by Alexander Scott to attend his son's funeral.
Scott, 38, of Tod Lane, was sentenced to 18 months in prison May 31 after pleading guilty in common pleas court to drug charges. He is being held in the county jail pending transfer to a state prison.
His 19-year-old son, Alexander Jr., was killed June 6 in a gunfight on Benita Avenue, near The Rayen School on the city's North Side. Scott's attorney, Damian Billak, filed a motion asking that he be released from jail long enough to attend today's funeral. Judge Maureen A. Cronin denied the request but ordered that Scott be taken by deputy sheriffs to privately view his son's body at the funeral home.
