CANFIELD -- A club sponsored by the Mahoning Valley Northeast Ohio Camp Fire Council has won a national award as one of the country's best community projects.
The Teens In Action club took fourth place and $100 for making 50 ABCs books and collecting $1,000 worth of supplies for local day-care centers.
The club is a group of teen-agers from Mahoning and Trumbull counties raising awareness of teen issues and helping in the community. The club has won 10 awards in the last 12 years.
Cash prizes are awarded to the top entries from TIA clubs, Boy and Girl Scouts, Camp Fire Boys and Girls, Girls Incorporated, National 4-H Council and Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
Colgate Palmolive created the awards in 1973 to encourage community involvement by youth groups.
Man robs patronat local food mart
HUBBARD -- A patron was robbed Sunday in Save-A-Step Food Mart at Youngstown-Hubbard and Jacobs roads.
Township police Detective Mike Begeot said a man entered the store at 6:20 a.m. and walked around as if shopping.
When he indicated he had a weapon in his pocket, one patron handed him an undetermined amount of cash.
The man fled without robbing the store or the other patron.
Boy shot with BB gun
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police were called to St. Elizabeth Health Center on Sunday afternoon after a 14-year-old boy was reportedly shot twice with a BB gun.
The boy's mother told police that her son, while playing in Homestead Park on the city's South Side, was shot in the knee and in the back with a BB gun by another boy. The boys did not know each other, but reports say the shooter is believed to be about 9 years old. The boy was treated at the hospital.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Police arrested a 58-year-old Lilburne Drive man after he reportedly used a shotgun to blast a Duncan Lane woman's home Sunday.
The woman told police the man gave her a ride home from a nearby gas station then asked to come in. Reports say she refused to let him in and he became upset.
The man, reports say, left and returned several times, once shooting at the house with the shotgun at about 3:30 a.m. He is charged with assault and shooting into a habitation.

BOARDMAN -- Police arrested a 27-year-old township woman on a felonious assault charge for attacking her live-in boyfriend with a butcher knife.
A witness contacted police after the woman said she wanted to kill herself. Police found a rag and butcher knife covered in blood in the kitchen before the suspect returned and was arrested.
According to the witness, the suspect became enraged when her live-in boy friend supposedly came home intoxicated. The witness said the suspect proceeded toward the victim in an aggressive manner and began slashing at him and he grabbed the knife to stop the attack and was cut.
Road rage reported
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Boardman resident and victim filed a police report for a case of road rage.
The victim reported that a man was driving recklessly on the road next to him and nearly struck his car. He was eastbound on East Midlothian Boulevard.
The victim followed the suspect into the parking lot of Splash & amp; Shine Auto Bath to write down his license plate number. While attempting to write it down the man exited his vehicle with a crowbar and yelled, "You're not getting my license, I'll kill you!" As the suspect started to walk toward the victim, he began driving away and the suspect swung the crowbar and broke the victim's rear window.
