YSU freshman earns Eagle Scout Award
Michael A. Yurco III, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael A. Yurco Jr. of Canfield, received the Eagle Scout award at a court of honor ceremony in St. Michael Church in Canfield.
He is a member of Greater Western Reserve Council, Boy Scouts of America, Troop 115, with Tom Watson as scoutmaster. Yurco received his Arrow of Light as a Cub Scout in Den 2, Pack 115. He has been patrol leader and assistant patrol leader with Troop 115.
He received both religious awards of his Catholic faith -- the Altare Dei Award and the Pope Pious Award. He attends St. Michael.
He earned 27 merit badges and his Eagle project was to design and build a volleyball court to benefit the youth of St. Michael Parish.
Yurco is a freshman at Youngstown State University studying criminal justice.
Richards landscapes, becomes Eagle Scout
David L. Richards Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. David L. Richards Sr. of Hummingbird Hill Drive, Poland, received his Eagle Scout award at a court of honor ceremony in Poland United Methodist Church.
Richards entered scouting at 7 with Cub Pack 2, and joined Boy Scout Troop 2, which is based in the church, when he was 11. He has earned 23 merit badges in addition to numerous awards and achievements. His Troop 2 leadership positions have been senior patrol leader, patrol leader, scribe and assistant patrol leader. He received the Order of the Arrow for his leadership qualities.
His Eagle service project was to design and landscape an area at the church on U.S. Route 224. He attends Kent State University, where he is majoring in business finances.

Canfield man earns hispodiatric degree
Thomas W. Groner, formerly of Poland, has earned his doctor of podiatric medicine degree from The Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland.
Groner graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1990 and earned a bachelor of science degree in biology from Youngstown State University in 1996. He will begin a three-year surgical residency at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
He is the son of Albert and Gloria Groner of Struthers. Groner is married to the former Leanne Francisco of Boardman. They live in Canfield.

Wolf earns Ph.D. in British Literature
Amy Wolf of Liberty has received her doctorate from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Mass., in 18th century British literature. Wolf is a National Merit Scholar and a 1990 graduate of Liberty High School.
She received her bachelor's degree summa cum laude in 1994 as a graduate of Bowling Green State University, where she earned Phi Beta Kappa honors. She received her master's degree in 1997 from the University of Massachusetts.
Wolf will begin teaching at Canisuis College in Buffalo, N.Y., in the fall. She is the daughter of Brian and Kathy Wolf of Liberty.
Shellito to begin assistant professorship
Bradley A. Shellito, son of Mr. and Mrs. David M. Shellito of Boardman, has received his doctorate degree in geography with a specialization in geographic information science from Michigan State University, East Lansing, Mich.
Shellito, a 1990 Boardman graduate, earned his bachelor's degree in computer science magna cum laude from Youngstown State University in 1994 and a master of arts degree in geography with a concentration in spatial analysis methods from Ohio State University in 1996.
He has accepted a faculty position at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., and will begin as an assistant professor this fall.
LAWYERS
Larkin to begin work in area of family law
Janet Larkin, daughter of Mary Lu Mickler and the late Stephen Mickler, has earned her juris doctorate degree magna cum laude from Capital University Law School in Columbus.
Larkin graduated from Struthers High School in 1985 and earned her bachelor of science degree from Ohio State University in 1991. While in law school, she was on the dean's list, participated in moot court and worked as a legal writing teaching assistant.
She has accepted a position with the law firm Friedman & amp; Mirman and will be working in the area of family law. Larkin and her husband, Phil, and their two children, live in Upper Arlington.
