RAY SWANSON | KEYSTONER Mediate will add PGA and state flair to Greenville event

There's only one place to be on July 30 if you happen to be a golf nut.
That's the Greenville Country Club, site of the 51st annual Greenville Business & amp; Industry Day Golf Outing. which this year will feature one of the PGA's most colorful and exciting players in Rocco Mediate.
Mediate will add a touch of Pennsylvania flair to the eagerly-anticipated event, as he hails from Greensburg, Pa. He is a veteran performer on the PGA tour, having had 16 years experience in golf's highest level of competition.
In accepting his invitation to perform in one of the major golfing events in Mercer County each year, Mediate joins a long line of previous golf professionals who have appeared in the event. Players such as Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Chi Chi Rodriquez, Lanny Wadkins, Curtis Strange, Doug Sanders and Ray Floyd have performed in the exhibition matches, as well as staging a clinic. Some players, such as Palmer, have appeared several times at the B & amp;I Day.
44th in winnings: Mediate will bring some rather impressive credentials with him. Last month he was ranked 44th among career money leaders, having earned more than $6 million in Tour prize money.
He has four PGA Tour victories, with his most recent being the 2000 Buick Open. He has also finished first in the 1991 Doral-Ryder Open, the 1993 K-Mart Greater Greensboro Open and the 1999 Phoenix Open.
In 1992, he won a non-PGA Tour event, the Perrier French Open, a victory that earned him international recognition.
The victory in the Buick Open lifted Mediate's winnings over the $1 million mark in a single season for the first time in his 16-year career.
Tom Frampton, Business and Industry chairman, is excited over the upcoming appearance of Mediate.
Said Frampton, "We're pleased to get Rocco. He joins the many golfing greats who have performed before Greenville area golf enthusiasts. He is very much looking forward to this golf outing and the other festivities at the country club. I'm sure he'll be a welcome addition to the day's events."
Exhibition match: Another highlight of the day's events will be an exhibition match featuring Mediate, Dan McMillen, country club pro; Barry Williams, current GCC club champion; and a fourth member to be determined on July 8 in an 18-hole amateur tournament at GCC.
Any profits generated will be used by local business and industrial development through the Greenville Area Economic Development Corp.

Titans select captains: Four senior players will serve as team captains for the Westminster College football team during the 2001 season.
Among them is defensive back Joe Stamper from Woodrow Wilson High. The others are offensive tackle John Dunlap (Pittsburgh/North Allegheny), wide receiver Brian Lipiello (Pittsburgh/Brentwood) and middle linebacker Eric Witt (Connellsville High).
Stamper is a two-year starter who played both cornerback and strong safety. He posted 60 total tackles in 2000.
Dunlap is a three-year starter on the Titan offensive line, spending last season at left tackle after starting at right tackle in 1998; while Lipiello, is his first season playing at wide receiver in 2000, caught 49 passes for 687 yards with nine touchdowns, leading Westminster in all three categories.
Witt is a two-year starter who moved to middle linebacker last season after starting at defensive tackle in 1999. He posted a team high 96 total tackles.
