MERCER CO. FAIR Organizers are seeking parade participants



Prizes will be awarded to bands, floats and vintage cars.
MERCER -- Organizers of the 37th annual Mercer County Grange Fair are seeking participants for the event's parade, which will be at 7 p.m. July 10.
The parade will begin at East End Fire Department on Pa. Route 58 and end on the Grange Fairgrounds.
Organizers are looking for marching bands, drill teams, floats, equine units, vintage cars and fire departments, among others.
Parade prizes: Drill teams and marching bands will get $125 for participating in the parade. In addition, marching bands will compete for prizes of $500, $350 and $250.
Floats are divided into two classes and are guaranteed $25 for participating. Class 1 floats are for clubs and organizations, and Class 2 is for commercial organizations. First place floats win $50, and second place $30.
Separate divisions for horses and ponies are available, and prizes of $15 or $20 are awarded based on appearance and performance of horse or pony and rider in four competitions -- ages 5-14, ages 15 and up, best rig and group.
Vehicles including antique, classic and custom cars and antique tractors are also eligible to participate, and try for prizes of $15 or $20. Clowns and decorated bicycles may compete as individuals or groups for $10 and $15 prizes. Miscellaneous entries of merit may win $5, $10 or $15.
Fire departments may enter a variety of vehicles.
