HERMITAGE Shenango Valley Survivor will test the fittest for fun, health

The program will challenge mind and body.
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- They're calling it Shenango Valley Survivor, but you don't have to audition or travel halfway around the world to participate, and no one is going to vote you off their island.
It's a series of outdoor fitness competitions June 18-22 at the Shenango Valley YMCA or the nearby Hickory High School track, both on Pa. Route 18.
The program is designed by the Sharon Regional Health System's Personal Fitness Center for men and women at least 13 years old, regardless of fitness level.
Two choices: Participants don't have to compete if they don't want to, said JoellenArenas, center spokeswoman. People can use the occasion just to kick off their own personal fitness program, she said.
For those who choose to compete, prizes will be awarded to the top three places in each division based on age and gender. First prize is three months of free membership to Sharon Regional's fitness center at 177 Snyder Road. Second prize is two months of free membership, and third place earns a one-month free membership.
Anyone is eligible for random daily prize giveaways, Arenas said.
Advance registrations are now being accepted by the center at $18 for fitness center members and $20 for all others. All advance registrants are guaranteed a Shenango Valley Survivor T-shirt. Children under 18 must have their application signed by a parent or guardian.
Any registrations made on the days of the events will be $25.
