SOUTHINGTON Gazebo construction under way at park

Volunteers are being sought to help build the structure.
SOUTHINGTON -- The gazebo planned for Southington's Community Park is finally under construction.
Elda Strock, who recently died in Florida, had donated the seed money for the project to honor Southington's Volunteer Fire Department, to which she belonged, as well as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and all other community volunteers.
Her son, Don Strock, reporting for Southington's Community Park Planning Committee, said the gazebo foundation is almost complete thanks to volunteers, including Pep Baugher Excavating of Southington.
Strock also noted orders are being taken for benches to be donated to the park. The cost is $250 each. Those interested in purchasing a bench should call (330) 847-0235. Strock added community volunteers will be welcome throughout all phases of the construction.
Township trustees voted Wednesday to reimburse Strock $201 for the building permit.
Zoning: In other business, zoning inspector Sam Lee said zoning violation complaint forms may be obtained either from him or any trustee or by calling (330) 889-2001.
Lee also reported the township building valuation has totaled $1,029,600 so far this year and permit fees have totaled $434.
In addition, trustees voted to authorize up to five people to attend the watershed planning program to be put on by Ohio State University extension office on June 25 in Mill Creek Park. The registration deadline is June 18.
Trustees also increased township insurance coverage to $252,000 to include the recently built addition to the township garage.
