HILLSVILLE, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police say a truck found burning in the quarries off U.S. Route 224 had been stolen in Boardman. The truck, owned by Harvey Setinsek of Cavalcade Road, Austintown, was found at 3 p.m. Monday. Police did not say when the truck was stolen.
3 face theft charges
SHARON, Pa. -- Police said they arrested an Orchard Street woman, her daughter and son-in-law in the theft of a dryer from the woman's former apartment. Katherine Custer, 52, of Orchard Street; Brenda Lackey, 34, of North Street; and William Lackey III, 39, of North Street, were all arrested on warrants at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the police station. Police said they removed an $1,100 clothes dryer from an apartment in the 300 block of Jefferson Avenue when Custer was vacating that apartment April 1. Custer is charged with criminal solicitation and criminal conspiracy, and the Lackeys are both charged with criminal conspiracy, theft and receiving stolen property. All three were later released and ordered to report to the office of District Justice James McMahon June 8 for arraignment.
Ward results unchanged
WARREN -- A recount failed to change results in the race for Hubbard 1st Ward council, giving the seat to incumbent Bonnie Viele by three-votes. The challenger, Albert J. Patrick, paid for the recount.
Forgery charges levied
SHARON, Pa. -- Police said a March Street woman forged her brother's name on a loan application and collected $3,000 from National City Bank. Reenie M. Rawsthorne, 39, was arrested at her home on a warrant at 10 a.m. Monday on charges of forgery, theft and issuing bad checks. She was arraigned before District Justice William Fagley and freed on a $5,000 unsecured bond. Police said she got the loan Oct. 30 but her brother never knew his name had been forged on the loan documents until late May when he happened to check his credit rating.
Man injured in crash
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Raymond Ischo Jr., 60, of Whiting Road, Sharpsville, was in stable condition today in Sharon Regional Health System with injuries suffered in a two-vehicle accident at Pa. Route 18 and Lamor Road. Police said Ischo was eastbound on Lamor and was driving through the Route 18 intersection around 7:45 a.m. Monday when his car was struck by a northbound auto driven by Randy Root, 27, of R.D. 1, West Middlesex. Police said Root was cited on a red light violation. He wasn't injured.
Ethnic intimidation
JAMESTOWN, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police said it was a case of ethnic intimidation when someone burned a wooden cross in the front yard of a 28-year-old Scipio Street woman at 12:15 a.m. Monday then fled.
Batcho trial postponed
YOUNGSTOWN -- After a pretrial Monday in municipal court, Judge Robert P. Milich agreed to postpone until Sept. 24 the jury trial that had been set for today for admitted hitman Mark Batcho. Batcho is accused of beating a fellow inmate at Mahoning County Jail in February.
Batcho, who was recruited by mob associates to shoot and wound a lawyer and the Mahoning County prosecutor-elect in 1996, is serving an 18-year sentence for those crimes and has a murder trial pending.
Dog attack charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- If the victim of a dog attack gets reimbursed roughly $420 by Rodney J. Moses for medical expenses, Municipal Judge Robert A. Douglas Jr. is willing to accept a plea agreement that amends the vicious dog charge to a minor misdemeanor, which carries no jail time. Moses, 26, of Erie, must pay by July 13 to a South Side man bitten by the dog in April. Moses has been free on $50,000 bond since March 5 in an unrelated drug case that involves the Ayers Street Playas, an East Side street gang. A conviction with jail time in the dog case could have triggered a bond revocation hearing.
Drugs found during stop
POLAND -- Township police charged a 53-year-old Lowellville man with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop shortly after 1:30 a.m. Monday. The man was stopped while driving along U.S. Route 224, east of Struthers Road, because his rear license plate light was out. Police then discovered and seized a measuring scale with suspected cocaine residue, a crack pipe and suspected crack cocaine.
