Little League book hits a home run
The kids on the Little League team Henry Dunow coaches are like the kids on every Little League team in America. Dunow profiles these kids and many others in "The Way Home," (Broadway, $22.95).
It is a beautiful book about Little League, coaching, fathers and sons and Dunow's experiences as the child of a Yiddish-speaking refugee from Hitler's Europe who regarded sports as "narishkeit" -- foolishness.
While some readers may be more interested in the depiction of eccentric Jewish family life in postwar Upper West Side New York, it's the baseball stories that will strike a universal chord in anyone who has ever played ball in the back yard, had a kid in Little League or rooted for a professional team.
