Rained out: The afternoon session of the Cellular One Pro-Am Tournament was canceled by heavy rains. The teams were called off the course just after 5 p.m. Tournament officials said the event will be held in two separate categories. Those teams who finished 18 holes on Wednesday will play a 36-hole event, while those teams who did not finish will play in an 18-hole event today. The forecast called for more rain this morning.
Seeks redemption: Se Ri Pak, who won the 1998 Giant Eagle LPGA Classic, is seeking redemption for her performance last year. Last year's Giant Eagle Classic is the only LPGA tournament that Pak has not won when she was leading going into the final round. She held a two-shot lead over halfway through the final round, but faltered at the end, shooting a 75 to finish in a tie for seventh place.
Solheim Cup tickets: Tickets for the 2002 Solheim Cup, the most prestigious international competition in women's professional golf, went on sale Tuesday. Tickets may be purchased by calling 1-800-2SOLHEIM or online at www.solheimcup.com. The biennial trans-Atlantic match-play event will be held Sept. 20-22, 2002 at Interlachen Country Club in Edina, Minn.
New LPGA ads: When the Giant Eagle LPGA Classic is aired this weekend over ESPN2, viewers will get a chance to see the new Tour advertising campaign titled "Positively Amazing." The campaign hopes to provide a fresh look at the Tour and establish a closer connection between its fans and players. Fans will able to see several members of the Giant Eagle field taking part in the ads, such as Dorothy Delasin, Laura Diaz, Leta Lindley, Pak and Dottie Pepper.
