South Pole doctor
SALEM -- Dr. Jerri Nielsen, the Salem native who made international headlines when she battled breast cancer while stranded at an isolated South Pole research facility, will speak about her experience later this month. Dr. Nielsen will give a free presentation beginning at 7 p.m. July 19 at the Salem High School Auditorium, 1200 E. Sixth St. The event is sponsored in part by Salem Community Hospital. The hospital will provide information about breast cancer as part of the program.
Palmyra Road closing
NORTH JACKSON -- A culvert replacement will close Palmyra Road between Bailey and Duck Creek roads from July 18-20, said Richard Marsico, Mahoning County Engineer.
Traffic will be detoured along Duck Creek, Ellsworth and Bailey roads.
