Sunday, July 1, 2001

HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Brookfield residents Kevin James and Richard and Delores Gaborko took home Best of Show awards from this year's Father's Day Car Show in Hermitage.
James won Best of Show for his 427 cubic inch-425 horsepower 1966 Corvette, which he found in California. His car was produced the second year after Chevrolet increased the cubic inches of the engine from a small block to a big block. It was also the first year Chevy used the 427 engine. The 'Vette has won the National Corvette Restorers Society Top Flight award for meeting the society's strict specifications for restoration, show officials said.
The 1936 Ford three-window coupe, owned by the Gaborkos, won the Best of Show award for modifieds. The restoration of the couple's car took 10 years.
This is the first year the two cars appeared in the Father's Day show.
Sponsored by the Shenango Valley Antique Automobile Club of America, the 19th annual Father's Day Car Show took place June 17. Over 600 cars were lined up in parking lots and along a half-mile strip on East State Street to participate in the show.
