Club Med closes six of its villages

Club Med closessix of its villages
The downturn in tourism that followed the terrorist attacks reached even the globe-spanning Club Med operation. Citing low bookings, Club Med has closed six villages, including two in the Caribbean.
The two Caribbean properties are the 264-room Club Med Columbus Isle in the Bahamas and the 256-room Club Med St. Lucia. The other affected villages included three in Mexico and one in Tahiti.
Clients booked at the closed villages had the option to change their Club Med locations, to cancel the vacation but apply the cost of the original package toward a future package or just cancel the vacation at no penalty.

Reserve airport parkingvia company's Web site
Travelers with an insecurity complex about airport parking might want to consider reserving a spot by Internet.
One growing player in that field is AirportParkingLots.com (www.airportparkinglots.com), a Suffield, Conn.-based company that began the year with listings at six airports and now lists more than 50 in the United States and 14 in Britain, according to Tom Lombardi, the company president.
Usually the company contracts with just one private lot or operator at each airport. On the Web site you can reserve parking for particular dates.
Folk art museummoves to larger facility
The Museum of American Folk Art in New York recently changed its name to the American Folk Art Museum and moved into new quarters about 10 blocks away from its old home -- and four times as large.
The $22 million, eight-level building at 45 W. 53rd St. will let the museum display more of its roughly 4,000 objects, culled from traditional folk art of the 18th and 19th centuries through works by self-taught contemporary artists.
Admission to the museum, formerly free, is now $9 for adults, $5 for seniors and students. It is open Tuesdays through Sundays, closed Mondays. It will continue to operate its former home, at 2 Lincoln Square, as a free branch of the museum, open daily.
