GREENVILLE Borough cop is suspended in sexual harassment probe

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Officials said a borough police officer has been suspended from his job pending the outcome of a sexual harassment investigation.
Police Chief Barry Williams confirmed Thursday only that an officer was suspended with pay this week and referred all questions to Mayor Clifford Harriger.
Harriger refused to identify the officer or answer any questions about the investigation, referring all inquiries to Mercer County District Attorney James Epstein.
Epstein also declined to identify the officer. His office, at the request of Harriger, is investigating the allegations of sexual harassment leveled against at least two officers in the Greenville-West Salem Police Department.
Two police dispatchers made the allegations last month and have refused to return to work until the matter is resolved.
Epstein said his office is looking at the alleged improper conduct of several officers but only one officer is being investigated regarding criminal conduct in the case.
He said his office should wrap up its probe in early January, and he will meet with borough officials to discuss the findings.
If it's a case of simple sexual harassment, that's a civil matter and must be dealt with by the borough or by the victims, Epstein said.
If there is evidence of criminal harassment, then his office can prosecute or ask the state attorney general's office to prosecute, Epstein said.
