CAMPBELL Ex-councilman added to civil service panel

Thursday, December 20, 2001

The community center at Roosevelt Park is under construction.
CAMPBELL -- City council appointed Jack Misik, a construction project manager and a former city councilman, to a six-year term on its three-member civil service commission.
He replaces Robert Demonich, whose term expired. He will be paid $1,000 a year for the part-time job, said Robert Yankle, council president, who nominated him Wednesday.
As the staggered terms of commission members expire at two-year intervals, the appointment of their replacements alternates between the mayor and city council.
"He was always fair and always civic-minded. I think Jack will be an asset to the city and the citizens," Yankle said. The commission governs civil service employees and their discipline and exams for civil service positions.
Mayor Jack Dill announced that construction is under way on the $155,000 community center in Roosevelt Park, which is expected to be completed by April, weather permitting.
The construction of the one-story center, capable of seating about 150 people, is being funded by a $96,000 Ohio Department of Natural Resources grant, $25,000 in Mahoning County sales tax money and the remainder from the city.
The indoor center will be for rent for meetings and small parties and have an open picnic pavilion behind it, he said.
Another matter: Council gave second reading to an ordinance that would authorize advertising for bids and entering into contract for printing the city charter with revisions, including those adopted by the voters last month.
Some 2,000 copies of the 30-page charter would be printed at an estimated cost of $2,500, said Judith Clement, council clerk, adding that the last printing of the charter was in 1986.
Dennis Stephens, city finance director, announced that the city has launched its Web site, which can be found at cityofcampbellohio.org.
