Yanceys to mark 60th anniversary at dinner party

YOUNGSTOWN -- Mr. and Mrs. James E. Yancey of 432 Lora Ave. will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Dec. 23 at a dinner party at The Georgetown in Boardman.
The couple also will renew their wedding vows at the event.
Invitations for the observance are being extended by the couple's children, Raymond E. Yancey, Roy C. Yancey, Anthony W. Yancey and Joi L. Yancey, all of Youngstown; Andrew C. and Diana M. Yancey of Fredricksburg, Va.; and Cynthia L. Yancey of Columbus. Seventeen grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren complete their family.
Mr. Yancey and the former Lorine Shelton were married Dec. 20, 1941, at Henrico County Courthouse in Richmond, Va.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked at Akron Soap Co. for 18 years. He then was employed as a laborer and later as a security guard at Commercial Shearing until retiring in 1985. He also holds a certificate in carpentry from New Castle School of Trades.
His wife is a homemaker and also was a home provider for the Mahoning County Children's Services Board until retiring in 1996. She is a Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity mother.
The Yanceys belong to Beulah Baptist Church, where Mrs. Yancey is a deaconess and member of the usher board and Mr. Yancey is a deacon. The couple are active in various church auxiliaries and also belong to the NAACP.
