'Breakfast With Santa'event for children
YOUNGSTOWN -- The PANDA Program of the Mahoning County Chemical Dependency Program Inc. sponsors the annual "Breakfast With Santa" Saturday at the YMCA auditorium, 17 N. Champion St., from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each child will receive a complimentary photo with Santa as well as a new toy. Doughnuts, muffins and pastries with juice also will be provided for the children.
This event is intended to make Christmas a little brighter for children 10 and under who may not otherwise receive gifts this holiday season. MCCDP is expecting more than 300 children from Mahoning County throughout the day. The event is staffed by adults and student volunteers. Any parents wishing to attend must call (330) 743-6671 to register. Sponsors are Home Savings and Loan, National City Bank, Rainbow Rentals and area Sparkle Markets.
Gleaners Food Bankpresents holiday dinner
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown Gleaners Food Bank is sponsoring a Christmas Day dinner for the needy from noon to 1 p.m. in St. Patrick Church Hall, 1420 Oak Hill Ave. Anyone who would like to volunteer time may call Joseph Lordi, food bank director, at (330) 726-9591 or (330) 746-8436.
Donations of food, supplies, toys or clothing can be dropped off at the food bank distribution center, 94 Pyatt St. Contributions may be sent to Youngstown Community Food Center and Gleaners Food Bank, P.O. Box 3587, Youngstown 44513.
Crime prevention talk
YOUNGSTOWN -- Lt. Rod Foley of the Youngstown Police Department will speak to the Southern Boulevard Block Watch at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Dominic Parish Center, 3403 Southern Blvd. His topic will be avoiding becoming a victim of crime during the holidays. The occasion is also the block watch's Christmas party, with refreshments being donated by H.P. Nemenz Foods.
Last leaf pickup
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The last day for leaf pickup in the city is Wednesday. Make sure all bagged leaves are at the curb before that day, city officials urge.
