VOLLEYBALL Niles notches first win of season



Maplewood blanked Lutheran East in two sets.
NILES -- Danielle Durig had 12 points and two aces, Joanne Johnson four kills and one block, and Michelle Rhodes eight assists and one dig, as Niles High (1-3) defeated Campbell Memorial 15-11, 15-12, in a high school volleyball match Tuesday.
For Campbell (0-1), Anna Zembillas had five points and two assists, Nicole Marteniz five points and two assists, Amanda Quinn two kills and five assists, and Rachael Miller two blocks.
Maplewood 15-15, Lutheran East 0-0: CORTLAND -- Toni Darocha had 22 points, six aces and three assists, while Krista Finch added eight points and four blocks and Joni Shelton three kills for Maplewood (1-0, 1-0 East Suburban Conference).
Jackson-Milton 15-15, Lowellville 3-3: NORTH JACKSON -- Desra Tomaino had four points, eight kills, six blocks and two digs to lead J-M (1-0, 1-0 Inter-County League), while Jessica Hemphill had two points, five kills, four blocks and one dig.
Also, Erika Stamm had 11 points, 17 assists and two digs, Stephanie Rogenski 10 points and Shauna Durig 14 assists.
For Lowellville (0-1, 0-1), Tami Nero had three points, 10 assists and three digs; Michelle Guidos two kills and four digs and Ashley Tych two kills.
Struthers 15-15, Ursuline 7-7: STRUTHERS -- Tiffany Robenolt had five digs, Stephanie Muntean 10 assists and Lyn Schuler 13 points to lead Struthers (1-0).
For Ursuline, Sue Graban had two kills, Rachel Evans two digs and Kate Florig four assists.
Mineral Ridge 12-15-15, Mathews 15-5-5: VIENNA -- Jenna Hicks had 12 points and three aces, Carrie Wilson had nine points and nine assists and Dariana Casado had 11 kills and eight blocks to lead Mineral Ridge (2-0).
Jaci Bahrey led Mathews (1-1) with five points, two aces, three kills and three blocks. Tara Parks added five points, three kills and three blocks in the loss.
Louisville 15-15, West Branch 10-5: LOUISVILLE -- Taylor Woods and Amanda Benner each had four points and Amber Metzger had four kills, two blocks and two assists for West Branch.
Crestview 15-15, Leetonia 4-5: Erin Mellinger had 16 points and five aces and Megan Mellinger had four assists, three kills and two blocks for Crestview. For Leetonia, Brianna Duko and Jessica Deville each had three points and Deville added six blocks and four kills.
